This used/secondhand glycol chiller system is ex-wine industry with the seller commenting: Details of the system based on a report we commissioned in 2017 are this chiller system was built in around 2001. It is based around a custom built rack of compressors. These are four Copeland scroll type utilising R404a as the refrigerant. The chiller cools the glycol through two plate heat exchangers which is then pumped by the primary pump to the buffer tank located outside. Heat from the chiller is rejected via a Patton condenser also located outside next to the buffer tank. The chiller is controlled by a proprietary Carel rack control system and electronic expansion valve controller, and it is understood that the chiller was designed to maintain a glycol temperature of -6°C.

The capacity of the chiller depends on its operating conditions, with the temperatures of the glycol and outside air having the most effect. To assess the capacity the chiller was operated at full load with the glycol temperature at 6°C and an ambient temperature of 14°C. In these conditions, which should result in close to maximum capacity, the cooling capacity of the chiller was approximately 80kW. With a glycol temperature of -6°C and higher ambient temperatures the capacity is likely to be closer to 60kW.

The condenser has a nominal heat rejection capacity of 122.5kW which equates to a chiller cooling capacity of 80kW.

The differential pressure produced by primary pump was measured as 97kPa, which gives a flow rate from the pump as read off the pump curve of 5.3 L/s enough for a chiller of approximately 95kW cooling capacity.

3.2 Secondary Pumps and Glycol Distribution System.
The flow rate from the secondary pumps varies depending on the number of tanks being supplied at any one time. With both pumps running at the end of their normal range, the pumps are capable of 6.1 L/s. This equates to a flow rate sufficient to deliver a nominal cooling capacity of approximately 110kW.

We have some 404A refrigerant stored by the our refrigeration company that goes with this unit but apparently it will need a bit of a top up with some refrigerant to get it running well.
